What happens to driving lessons in lockdown?

Posted in: Latest

Hi, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our teenagers and adults across all communities in North Wales that we provide lessons and familiarisation sessions all the health and safety necessary during this uncertain time. We want you to know we are here to offer any remote support and advice and will be here for you all as soon as the country starts to return to normal again.

Obviously, you are aware that the UK is now in lockdown due to the spread of the Coronavirus. At this stage, it is unknown how long this will last and sadly this has meant we have had to suspend driving lessons which do not fall in the essential service category. We are of course determined to protect the health of our driving instructors and our loyal students, so it is sensible that services are suspended from when lockdown started in March. Two people sitting in a vehicle are not able to sit the required distance apart, will be breathing the same air, and trips out on the road for driving lessons fall under pleasure, not essential travel.
We do understand the frustration this is going to cause many of our learner drivers, and we know that to you, learning or refamiliarising yourself with driving is something that will improve your life. However, there is no choice in the matter. While we are locked down, you may find you have a little more time on your hands than usual so why not do a little bit of work to keep you at the top of your game as soon as the lessons can start again?
Many people will have been having our practical offroad lessons and driving experiences with Progress Youth, as well as learning or familiarising themselves with their theory and passing the mock Progress theory test.

While official Theory tests are also closed, this is a perfect time to do some extra work and get practising in order to ensure that you know as much as possible before you head to the test centre, or get back on the road. We have a couple of tools to get you going.

First of all, the Progress Theory Test Tool will help you with the questions you are likely to encounter. Secondly, we know how tricky hazard perception can be, and that is where our Progress Hazard Perception mobile app comes into its own, there is plenty to practice and you will be an expert at hazard spotting by the time you take your test.
Please note that if you are a critical worker and fall into that category you should make contact with us to discuss your options.
